(More to come on that.) I'm developing an obsession with folksy paintings on logs. I have 3 to date and think I'll hold on to the until I can fill an entire wall. I also scored a silver bowl with stags heads (sadly, one is injured and lost an antler, making it more unique! Gimpy Stag Bowl, anyone?). Another find is a Baptist Church commemorative plate from Cumming, GA. Also, a weird cafeteria tray with seemingly decoupaged butterflies? Yes, please! <br />
<br />
But, the most remarkable find of the whole venture was this crazy neon serigraph by Sister Corita Kent, a nun who made pop art. For real! This is actually pretty collectible, but I'm going to have a hard time convincing myself to part with it!Mayflower McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829584936997067445noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6311281751647785900.post-46091289037570032322011-11-23T19:49:00.000-08:002011-11-23T19:49:03.248-08:00Classy, baby, classy!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAC4TjsV6s8-ANyHS7_YwXYE5pTTWlXen1Q0lIsY5Ymh7Cvr7gkiV9TzLmDyRAlRAjVusJbZXjBGY0SWR6v1P2M-NeJArfKPY2iGwnhFIxcDwaJeyrHLMVJDi8DElBGdDOVYV5VpkxoIc/s1600/11.23.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="223" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAC4TjsV6s8-ANyHS7_YwXYE5pTTWlXen1Q0lIsY5Ymh7Cvr7gkiV9TzLmDyRAlRAjVusJbZXjBGY0SWR6v1P2M-NeJArfKPY2iGwnhFIxcDwaJeyrHLMVJDi8DElBGdDOVYV5VpkxoIc/s320/11.23.jpg" /></a></div>This week's finds are ALL CLASS! or all glass. (mainly). I found a crystal and silver bowl - *just* in time for Thanksgiving, some very cool Air Force Academy glasses, and two rockin' state plates. I held back on the tacky this time! Or did I?!Mayflower McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829584936997067445noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6311281751647785900.post-82951345935844931432011-11-16T20:52:00.000-08:002011-11-16T20:52:35.724-08:00A Good Old Fashioned Christmas....<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvIm5unOBhz9gIZ731kcHm9VWiUXVVP2ilLZLHmf3odO2d4gGiwjCzwBCqBTQC0jZrrQ_9rLovo3LJ3E7aQFMFCphVADpKv9ll_1H_xADX4sGXARtRG1iMTSfHYtS165MqbDiYyW4NOGI/s1600/beer+can+tree.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="320" width="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvIm5unOBhz9gIZ731kcHm9VWiUXVVP2ilLZLHmf3odO2d4gGiwjCzwBCqBTQC0jZrrQ_9rLovo3LJ3E7aQFMFCphVADpKv9ll_1H_xADX4sGXARtRG1iMTSfHYtS165MqbDiYyW4NOGI/s320/beer+can+tree.jpg" /></a></div>My knickknack sourcing came to a halt this week so that I could partake in the age old tradition of stringing beer cans for the Christmas tree. Ahhh - Just like it was when I was a kid back in Appalachia. <br />
Actually, Frock On Vintage in Austin has hired me to style their holiday window and I've finally found a way to put my husband's beer can collection to use! If you don't happen to be lucky enough to have a beer can collection, you can always start with a 6 pack and see where the night takes you. Enjoy!Mayflower McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829584936997067445noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6311281751647785900.post-8445098379513876622011-11-11T12:42:00.000-08:002011-11-11T12:51:27.443-08:00Let's Put Our Heads Together ....<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8aNpMrO9_R2VJq911Xh6du5ke-ftKoYgIGu2_GNfJAkWJfdRT6zwaC397GHhxuqpexjh1yZVhkDpiInDAqykCLl6gjYYFcAaVAEU9MeQGXiNsi8I09J6Fkq-D3Y1Oc9Cm7xY5P9IJuN0/s1600/savers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="251" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8aNpMrO9_R2VJq911Xh6du5ke-ftKoYgIGu2_GNfJAkWJfdRT6zwaC397GHhxuqpexjh1yZVhkDpiInDAqykCLl6gjYYFcAaVAEU9MeQGXiNsi8I09J6Fkq-D3Y1Oc9Cm7xY5P9IJuN0/s320/savers.jpg" /></a></div>Today I found 3 Styrofoam heads (perfect for hats - need to find some!), a hot orange summer purse with Lucite handles, a sweet beaded pink number, an old school orange bowl, a creepy bleeding Jesus "Acapulco" souvenir, another flower plate (what's up with all of the flowers?!) and the most awesome log ashtray EVER!Mayflower McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829584936997067445noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6311281751647785900.post-52977161248805468982011-11-10T18:25:00.000-08:002011-11-10T18:35:18.213-08:00Patent Leather and Bark<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFvHCRhtFCxy73h7sZdG7fJQFP2het0cPp2XgAAnjuOFzmYUFfRVJaPPu11WgJyNP4QZtakYk0HUtJD21xu59uQLNexy6zV1kvUM1UMZZYD9aywFeHQ8LPQ8u8GbCnEBZHqcg2n0E3LsQ/s1600/11.10.11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="242" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFvHCRhtFCxy73h7sZdG7fJQFP2het0cPp2XgAAnjuOFzmYUFfRVJaPPu11WgJyNP4QZtakYk0HUtJD21xu59uQLNexy6zV1kvUM1UMZZYD9aywFeHQ8LPQ8u8GbCnEBZHqcg2n0E3LsQ/s320/11.10.11.jpg" /></a></div>The past few days' finds range from a luxe orange patent leather purse to a bird painting on a bark-edged log. High/Low. Seriously. I've also found a kinda tacky / kinda awesome floral painting, a sweet little dish, a suede hippie satchel, and a photograph that amuses me (but might not anyone else ... we'll see) entitled "Interior Fragrance". If nothing else, I'll hang it in my bathroom.Mayflower McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829584936997067445noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6311281751647785900.post-20116171009981089172011-11-07T07:53:00.000-08:002011-11-10T18:36:54.861-08:00Kitsch-tastic<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-7DRsE0zVgJxLlVe-Eek825eql_iM7S6iEvAzVl_8NK11FdILf1w92bqhJfW5PqwYgN5sleq5ygHrbpelBavsFDuIAGrVt74evqYcpZm4HVyRdvSCcEi9ObNnuUxfLZVEyrJSIO9QAoE/s1600/kitsch+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="246" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-7DRsE0zVgJxLlVe-Eek825eql_iM7S6iEvAzVl_8NK11FdILf1w92bqhJfW5PqwYgN5sleq5ygHrbpelBavsFDuIAGrVt74evqYcpZm4HVyRdvSCcEi9ObNnuUxfLZVEyrJSIO9QAoE/s320/kitsch+1.jpg" /></a></div>Holy Toledo! (and I do mean "holy"...) This weekend's finds include some disembodied gold praying hands, a pirate mug, a weird matte black dog, and a super cheesy (yet wonderful) hummingbird vase. The only thing to redeem this big pile of kitsch is a lovely mid-century condiment server with wooden handle. Thank God for that!Mayflower McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829584936997067445noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6311281751647785900.post-51142874546227612782011-11-02T14:20:00.000-07:002011-11-02T14:20:10.293-07:00No to the NagelSome goodies today! Although I had to say "no" to a <a href="http://cdn.trendland.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/patrick-nagel-80s-fashion-illustration_9.jpg">Nagel</a>. I reached my Nagel threshold - what I wouldn't spend on a Nagel!<br />

It was a good day....Mayflower McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829584936997067445noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6311281751647785900.post-39256779910148625592011-11-02T06:18:00.000-07:002011-11-02T06:23:25.684-07:00Crazy for Asian<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinyO4lt3jOmB8m3OrSXLH8vrN0a8nzZAD6G5eXooyXr2tDaDUq4rT_WBJE7rb73Sn_UM6CxG7Vu7O8R4LVIvmb38oG6zlJ-bP_eEIVJJjjE-85RJnvyhWKrWUUEDKPj8NEb1-td4VATYE/s1600/goodwill+10.30.11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="230" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinyO4lt3jOmB8m3OrSXLH8vrN0a8nzZAD6G5eXooyXr2tDaDUq4rT_WBJE7rb73Sn_UM6CxG7Vu7O8R4LVIvmb38oG6zlJ-bP_eEIVJJjjE-85RJnvyhWKrWUUEDKPj8NEb1-td4VATYE/s320/goodwill+10.30.11.jpg" /></a></div>I've always been drawn to a Asian aesthetic or, probably more accurately, a Westerner's interpretation of an Asian aesthetic (think chinoiserie, or <a href="http://www.asia.si.edu/exhibitions/online/peacock/default.htm">Whistler's Peacock Room</a>). Today's finds were, for some reason, all kinda Asian! A plastic, faux lacquer serving tray, a small lacquer box, a cute silk purse, and a very cool (o.k., maybe not Asian) horse sculpture. I wonder what's next?<br />
<br />

I found some adorable purses this week and am thrilled because now that I'm selling vintage items, I have a reason to buy purses again! I've always been a purse collector, but at some point it was getting ridiculous. I honestly don't go out that much and, now that I'm a mom, I default to a big bag that holds a bunch of junk. So - yay - purses have returned to my life!Mayflower McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829584936997067445noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6311281751647785900.post-87815310097372443172011-10-29T11:24:00.000-07:002011-10-29T11:32:20.136-07:00Mid-Century Mayhem<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZzTxQ3PjQcI5QB2AoNuxnSkZM5tXgFa9NfGGHGADXL1_xoQ0IQfkqH8a4XfHgmoPIj5ACloajYBOG4wVv9LIs6lKN7T0Cp0KAKsUuXjvymxvHmmFje0ZjUa4o3BUsPX4RMMo8nTjpYCg/s1600/estate+sale.1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="239" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZzTxQ3PjQcI5QB2AoNuxnSkZM5tXgFa9NfGGHGADXL1_xoQ0IQfkqH8a4XfHgmoPIj5ACloajYBOG4wVv9LIs6lKN7T0Cp0KAKsUuXjvymxvHmmFje0ZjUa4o3BUsPX4RMMo8nTjpYCg/s320/estate+sale.1.jpg" /></a></div>I was headed to a garage sale and got sidetracked along the way. SO glad I did because an original A.D. Stenger house, built in the 50s, was having an estate sale. Boy, did I find some loot! Today's catches include: a portrait of the man of the house (who looked remarkably like Jimmy Carter!), a few, gloriously bright, unchipped pieces of enamelware (including a fab fondue set - I can just see it bubbling in front of the fire at the ski lodge), a cake tin that is EXACTLY like the one I grew up with, minus the big rusty dent, a set of 10 seriously funky silver studded and iridescent glasses, a complete coffee service, and a bronze leafed laurel motif mirror. <br />

Now, a blue elephant?! That's the good stuff. Busy being healthy today (!), so had to squeeze in some hunting in the afternoon. Still found some amazing treasures including: aforementioned blue ceramic elephant, a casino themed dip bowl, kicky metal US state trays, beautiful old silver that I just couldn't pass up, a genuine Renaissance style portrait (what the? how lucky am I?!), Japanese lacquer bowls, crazy German iridescent orange dessert plates, and one very surprising vinyl cowboy boot piece of wall decor.<br />

A few quick stops around town allotted these finds: a candy red laminate serving tray, a monkey purse (!), some lovely, overlooked artwork, a chrome magazine rack that just needs some buffing, a honking red patent leather flower purse, and some hefty smokey 70s goblets.Mayflower McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829584936997067445noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6311281751647785900.post-36748271689057415322011-10-26T08:35:00.000-07:002011-10-29T11:34:00.483-07:00My first cull<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIVeSvus6HGdWY-qeaX80oDCwGjA7-yZTvTxXrdKauuRU9ML7cmcTplo8kjdpbxBwZLLkqcrxxiX_XXfEIfHd8H5cOI2GHx0vlcLWQ6_DGB7CT747VYOI6a55Jn318LDgLKLnSB2rJmC0/s1600/cull+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="320" width="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIVeSvus6HGdWY-qeaX80oDCwGjA7-yZTvTxXrdKauuRU9ML7cmcTplo8kjdpbxBwZLLkqcrxxiX_XXfEIfHd8H5cOI2GHx0vlcLWQ6_DGB7CT747VYOI6a55Jn318LDgLKLnSB2rJmC0/s320/cull+2.jpg" /></a></div>Yesterday's cull, minus the Eggleston photograph. I'm officially a picker! On my first trip to Goodwill, I found a William Eggleston photograph for $8.99. I'm taking this as a sign that I should use my knickknack curatorial skills for good and not evil. Knickknack Nation, here I come!Mayflower McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829584936997067445noreply@blogger.com0
